The intention behind our regular all-school assemblies is to develop a feeling of unity, to build school spirit, and to foster a positive school culture among the students and staff. Our goal is to have a dynamic speaker each quarter who engages students in personal growth opportunities. Our next event is being planned, so stay tuned!
TJ Wheeler has had a successful 20-year career in the military and is currently deployed for civil affairs in the Micronesia Islands. We learned about his journey to the US Army and the strengths gained through his experience and the interesting projects he has worked on.
We welcomed Rebecca Blum as our guest speaker in September 2023. Rebecca is a script supervisor and director in Los Angeles, California. She has directed multiple episodes of Mom, The Neighborhood, and Call Me Kat. She has supervised scripts on many pilots and series, most recently on Lopez vs Lopez, Night Court, and One Day at a Time. She shared some valuable advice with our students:
find your passion
figure out what you love to do
get really good at what you love
get a mentor
Anna Vaus is a singer/songwriter based in Nashville and raised in San Diego. Anna blends her West Coast cool with refreshing hooks and unmistakably relatable lyrics. Her music has been likened to that of Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Maggie Rogers. She partnered with Luke Laird (Kacey Musgraves) to co-produce her latest EP, “Younger Version of Myself,” which was released last fall. Feel free to check her and her music out below.
Molly Morris was the guest speaker at our Winter Assembly. She is a writer and hit the Top Ten List on TikTok over the summer for young adult literature with her recent book “This is Not the End.” She shared what it is like to be an author, her method of inspiration, and the process of getting her book published. It took five years from start to finish!
We had a wonderful turnout for our September Assembly. Shout out to Leo and Lilia who created an amazing presentation and moderated the event, which oriented new and continuing students to CMASAS in a fun and interactive way. This was a student-led assembly.
In February 2022, we had 120 students meet Nell and Nava (the great horned and northern pygmy owls). Peggy Cheatham, an Oregon, and federally trained/licensed wildlife rehabilitator (26 years) and basic wildlife care instructor, talked to us about wildlife rescue care with a focus on raptors.
